Immigrants from Guangdong Province in China hold a very important place in Chinese Australian history. They were the earliest settlers who engaged in business activities in Australia. It is this long-term involvement in commerce that has made the Chinese Australians one of the most successful communities among all ethnic groups in Australia today.
Since opening up, China's foreign trade and investment have grown rapidly each year. Guangdong was among the first provinces to begin foreign trade with western countries, and in recent years more and more immigrants from Guangdong have started successful business ventures in Australia. This has not only created huge social wealth and employment opportunities in Australia, but has also greatly enhanced trade and investment between China and Australia. A stronger relationship has been forged between the two nations.
In the effort to support enterprises and business people from Guangdong in Australia, the decision was made to form the Australian Guangdong Chamber of Commerce Incorporated. The Australian New South Wales Chamber of Commerce authorised the use of the title “Chamber of Commerce,” and the common goal is to further promote cooperation and information exchange in trade and investment opportunities between China and Australia. In addition, CCPIT (Guangdong International Chamber of Commerce) appointed the Australian Guangdong Chamber of Commerce Incorporated as its representative office in Oceania.
